A federal jury in Salt Lake City has returned a guilty verdict against a West Covina man arrested in what authorities said was Utah’s largest cocaine seizure.
Jorge Enrique Arango, 27, was convicted on one count of possession of 220 pounds of cocaine with intent to distribute. Judge Bruce Jenkins scheduled sentencing for June 12 for Arango, who faces up to life in prison and a fine of $4 million.
Because of insufficient evidence, charges were dropped against a co-defefendant, Nazly Correa, 30, of La Puente, who was allowed to return to California.
The two men, both Colombian nationals, were stopped for speeding last Nov. 16 on Interstate 70, and a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered the cocaine, estimated to be worth more than $2 million.
