Local News in Brief : Mobile-Home Park Closings Halted

Carson City Council members Tuesday voted to impose a 45-day moratorium on mobile-home park closures to give city officials more time to determine what changes should be made to a tenant relocation ordinance.
About 5,000 people live in the city’s 28 parks. Owners of two parks have told the city that they plan to shut down as soon as possible, and two more have indicated they might do the same, according to City Administrator Jack R. Smith.
Smith said the city’s present relocation ordinance is vaguely worded and does not provide specific compensation for tenants forced to move. The city decided to review the ordinance because of a state law that requires park owners to provide “reasonable” relocation costs, he said.
