Return of an Oscar

A modest proposal concerning the recent return of Lyle Wheeler’s Oscar, won for his art direction in “The Diary of Anne Frank” (“A Hollywood Ending for the Wheeler Oscar Saga,” by Daniel Cerone, March 25):
William Kaiser, a former hospital administrator from Tuxedo Park, N.Y., purchased the statuette for $21,250 and presented it to Mr. Wheeler. What a magnanimous and wonderful act!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has an honor called the Jean Hersholt Award, a tribute for humanitarian service. That award should be given to William Kaiser.
