Local News in Brief : Ex-Holden Aide Gets Probation

A former aide to Los Angeles City Councilman and mayoral candidate Nate Holden was sentenced Thursday to two years’ probation for accepting $750 from the owner of an auto body shop being investigated by Holden’s office.
Former Holden field deputy Coy Lee Sallis, 55, was also ordered by Superior Court Judge David Horowitz to make restitution and perform 200 hours of community service.
In a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office in February, Sallis pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of a public official accepting a gratuity.
In exchange, two felony counts of attempting or threatening to extort were dismissed.
Sallis was arrested last June for allegedly soliciting money from the owners of three auto body shops that were being investigated by Holden, who is running for mayor.
Holden fired Sallis shortly after his arrest.
