The Mission Viejo City Council this week named Fred Sorsabel, former city manager of Costa Mesa, to the position of Mission Viejo city manager.
Announcement of the appointment at Monday’s council meeting ended a nationwide search to replace William Talley, who resigned in January as the fledgling city’s first city manager.
Since that time, the city screened about 75 candidates for the job who applied from all parts of the country. Sorsabel was selected after the council conducted interviews of the finalists for the job.
The council will approve Sorsabel’s employment agreement at its next meeting on March 27. Details of the contract are still being worked out.
Sorsabel was city manager of Costa Mesa from 1972 until 1985. After a hiatus from city government, Sorsabel joined the city of El Segundo about a year and a half ago as that city’s interim city manager, which he resigned to take the Mission Viejo post.
