Three suspects in a Burbank liquor store robbery in which a clerk was shot and critically injured were arrested when their getaway car crashed during a police chase, authorities said today.
The robbery occurred at La Paz Liquor in the 4100 block of West Magnolia Boulevard at 10:45 p.m. Monday, police said. An unidentified clerk was shot in the stomach and was in critical condition at St. Joseph Medical Center.
After the robbery, the suspects were spotted speeding from the scene, and patrol officers chased them onto the northbound Golden State Freeway. Police said the suspects fired shots at the officers but no one was struck. When the suspects attempted to exit the freeway at Buena Vista Street, their car turned over on the off-ramp. The suspects were only slightly injured and attempted to escape but were captured by police nearby.
The three Los Angeles men were identified as Otis Johnson, 29; Franklin Ragsdale, 23, and Tommy A. Marshall, 23. Police said all three were being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder.
