Gangs Blamed in Youth’s Death, Man’s Shooting

A 17-year-old Pacoima youth was killed and a 21-year-old man wounded in what police believe were gang-related shootings Friday.
The shootings were not believed to be related, a police spokesman said.
John Duarte was shot once at 3:15 p.m. while riding in the back of a car that was pulling out of a parking lot at Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Terra Bella Street in Pacoima, Los Angeles Police Lt. Bernard Conine said.
Duarte died during emergency surgery at Holy Cross Medical Center, Conine said.
Tony Scott was shot about 9 p.m. on Louvre Street in Pacoima by two men driving in a blue and white Cadillac, police Lt. Gary Williams said.
Scott was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center, where he was reported in good condition.
