WCAC Roundup : Lowery Lifts Portland Past San Francisco

Josh Lowery scored 25 points and Erik Spoelstra made four free throws in the final 18 seconds of overtime Saturday to lead Portland past San Francisco, 87-84, in a West Coast Athletic Conference game at Portland, Ore.
The victory lifted Portland to 2-21 overall and 2-8 in the conference. San Francisco is 13-10, 5-5.
San Francisco led, 22-9, with 11:43 left in the first half, but Portland outscored the Dons, 25-14, to make it 36-34 San Francisco at halftime.
Steve Hutchinson, who finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds, hit a free throw with 12 seconds to play in regulation to give Portland a 76-74 lead.
Mark McCathrion, who led San Francisco with 26 points and 12 rebounds, hit a jump hook with three seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Hutchinson scored four points in overtime and Spoelstra’s free throws secured the victory for coach Larry Steele’s Pilots.
Ron Deaton and Spoelstra scored 15 points each for Portland. Joel DeBortoli scored 21 for San Francisco, and Shawn Sykes had 17 for the Dons.
Gonzaga 83, Santa Clara 66--Jim McPhee and Doug Spradley combined for 49 points as Gonzaga shot 71% in the second half to rally for a victory in Spokane.
