The City Council this week approved conceptual plans for the renovation of McManus Park.
The $1.1-million renovation will add additional space to the six-acre park at National Avenue and Ballona Creek by shortening the cul-de-sacs at Fay, McManus, Roberts and Reid avenues, which feed into the park. The number of parking spaces will be increased from 42 to 65.
The tot lot area will be doubled, the recreation center will be moved to a more central location in the park and away from residences, two paddle tennis courts and a grass volleyball court will be provided, and a soccer field will be overlayed between two softball fields.
The council also agreed to allow a cooperative nursery school to use the park’s recreation center for a nursery school for half a day, three times a week.
