IN BRIEF : Boxer Marsh Staging Own Fight

LONDON — Continuing to defy British boxing authorities who refuse to grant him a license, former world junior-welterweight champion Terry Marsh today announced the opponent and date for his comeback fight and said he would promote it himself.
Marsh, a former firefighter who quit boxing 17 months ago when he was diagnosed as an epileptic, said he would stage the fight in his home town of Basildon on March 4 against French-based Moroccan Lofti Belkhir.
At stake will be the International Boxing Federation continental welterweight championship, a rival version of the official EBU European title not recognized by the British Boxing Board of Control.
The unsanctioned contest will take place exactly two years after Marsh won the International Boxing Federation’s world junior-welterweight title. He defended it once before retiring unbeaten.
The British Boxing Board Of Control is scheduled to meet later this week to reconsider Marsh’s appeal to have his license reinstated.
