John Wordin of Woodland Hills was selected Wednesday to attend the U. S. Cycling Federation training camp later this month in Fresno, the second step in qualifying for a berth on the U.S. national team.
Wordin, 25, who is currently in Colorado Springs, Colo., training for a possible berth on Team USA--for cyclists without corporate sponsors--was 1 of 3 selected from a group of 31 male cyclists at the camp. The Fresno camp, which will include cyclists with sponsorships and team affiliations, runs Feb. 13 through March 10.
Wordin, a distance cyclist who competes in the time trials and road-race events, will join John Tomac of Chatsworth at the USCF camp.
“This is the big camp,” said Wordin, 25. “It’s kind of a ‘Who’s Who’ camp. These will be the best riders in the country.”
