United Airlines said the Transportation Department has granted the airline authority to begin daily nonstop service from San Francisco to Mexico City, effective May 1. The airline said the flight has been authorized for one year but added that it will seek to extend the approval period. Pending before the agency are United’s requests for authority to fly to Mexico City from Los Angeles, Denver, Washington (Dulles), and Chicago; to Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver and Chicago, and Guadalajara, Mazatlan and San Jose del Cabo from Los Angeles.
