THE PREPS : Roundup : Jason Ochs Leads Brea-Olinda Past Anaheim in Soccer

Jason Ochs scored 2 goals to help the Brea-Olinda High School boys’ soccer team tighten its grip on first place in the Orange League with a 6-2 victory over second-place Anaheim Friday at Anaheim.
The Wildcats (11-3-1, 5-0) went ahead, 3-0, in the first 25 minutes on goals by Ochs, Scott Maurer and Jeff Ortiz. Anaheim (8-4-3, 2-2-1) pulled to within 3-1 just before the half as Mike Barnas scored the first of his 2 goals.
Ochs, J.R. Ochs and Marco Hernandez scored second-half goals for Brea-Olinda.
Goalie Jeff Bettencourt made 6 saves for the Wildcats. Jose Escobedo made 13 saves for Anaheim.
In another Orange League match:
Magnolia 4, Western 1--Enrique Rodriguez scored twice and Brice Hoy and Jeff Speakman each had a goal for host Magnolia (8-7-2, 2-2-1). Josh Baugh scored in the final 2 minutes of the first half to tie the score, 1-1, for Western (1-12, 0-5).
In the Angelus League:
Mater Dei 3, Bishop Amat 2--Brian Oram scored 2 goals to lead the host Monrachs (8-8, 4-1). Oram gave Mater Dei a 1-0 lead early in the first half, but Bishop Amat tied the score on a goal by Jess Sandoval. Oram and Ryan Robobitaille scored in the second half to give Mater Dei a 3-1 lead.
In the Century League:
El Modena 1, Canyon 1--Randy Campbell scored in the first half for host Canyon and Mark Gonzales scored in the second half for El Modena. Chris Snitko had 5 saves for Canyon (12-2-5, 2-0-4) and John Eastman had 7 saves for El Modena (2-3-1 in league play).
Villa Park 3, Santa Ana Valley 0--Mike Noble, Ron Lou and Keith Amen scored for host Villa Park (8-4-6, 1-2-3).
In the Empire League:
Katella 2, Loara 0--Armando Orizaba and Dave Hardy scored for Katella (9-5-4, 3-1-2) at Loara. Loara is 4-8-4, 0-5-1.
In the Garden Grove League:
Kennedy 4, La Quinta 0--Freshman John Medina scored 2 goals for host Kennedy (8-4-3, 6-1-1). Diego Abbes and Mike Daniels also scored for the Fighting Irish.
In the Olympic League:
Santa Margarita 2, Valley Christian 1--Steve Feeney and Jason Forman scored for host Santa Margarita (9-7-1, 4-5). J.B. McCormick scored for Valley Christian (6-2-1 in league play).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Woodbridge 2, Costa Mesa 0--John Sczcuka scored 2 goals, 1 in each half, for visiting Woodbridge (7-4-4, 7-1-3).
Laguna Hills 1, Laguna Beach 1--Shan Gray of Laguna Beach scored 12 minutes into the second half and Chad Muhr of Laguna Hills scored 10 minutes later. Jeff Calvert had 9 saves for Laguna Hills (7-3-7, 4-2-5) and Dan Gebler has 12 saves for Laguna Beach (2-5-3 in league play).
In the Sea View League:
Saddleback 2, Estancia 1--Al Quintero scored with about 30 seconds left to break a 1-1 tie for visiting Saddleback (12-4-4, 5-0-1). Freshman Jose Escudero scored his 14th goal of the season in the first half for Saddleback.
Tustin 3, Newport Harbor 1--Matt Alexander, Scott Casey and Matt Hardy scored for Tustin (5-4-6, 1-2-2) at Newport Harbor. David Pattison scored for Newport Harbor (5-5-4, 2-3-1).
In Angelus League girls’ soccer:
Mater Dei 6, Connelly 0--Goalies Michelle Lodgya and Julie Tarnay each made 1 save in shutting out Connelly at Mater Dei. Debbie Lewis, Christine Awadallah, Diana Awadallah, Tina Manfree, Carla Cichocki and Robyn Camarillo scored for the Monarchs (15-4-2, 6-1-1).
Rosary 3, St. Paul 0--Karen Miltenberger scored 2 goals and Amy Polmaszek scored 1 for visiting Rosary (5-2-2 in league play).
In Garden Grove League girls’ basketball:
La Quinta 68, Kennedy 40--Amy Jalewalia had 21 points, 14 rebounds and 6 steals for host La Quinta (16-3, 9-0). Heather Brannan had 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Aztecs. Michelle Harris scored 20 points for Kennedy (6-3 in league play).
Los Amigos 56, Pacifica 32--Amy Pearson scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds and Angela Fischbeck scored 20 points and had 20 rebounds for host Los Amigos (7-10, 5-4).
Rancho Alamitos 60, Santiago 32--Jenny Newsome had 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead host Rancho Alamitos (15-2, 7-2).
In the Olympic League:
Whittier Christian 81, Capistrano Valley Christian 34--Cherilyn Culp scored 18 points to lead host Whittier Christian. Carrie Shannon scored 18 points to pace Capistrano Valley Christian.
