In another women’s game:
Valley 72, Santa Barbara 59--Tisa Rush scored a season-high 18 points to lead the Monarchs in a Western State Conference game at Santa Barbara.
Rush made 9 of 14 field-goal attempts and had 3 steals and 4 assists.
Valley used a full-court press on defense to force 22 Santa Barbara turnovers. The Monarchs held a commanding 35-23 lead at the half and never trailed.
MEN
Valley 83, Santa Barbara 78--After coming to the conclusion that its first-half strategy of attacking from the perimeter was failing, Valley adjusted its game plan to feature the inside talents of 6-7 center Andrea Bouvay and 6-7 forward Oral Elrington.
The adjustment paid off as Valley rallied from a 5-point halftime deficit in a Western State Conference game at Valley.
Bouvay, a freshman out of defending state champion Manual Arts High, scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half and Elrington had 16 of his game-high 24 points after intermission as the Monarchs built a lead that reached as much as 8 points.
Joey Manliguis, who scored 13 points, orchestrated the comeback by dishing out 12 assists, 7 in the second half.
