STATE : PSA Crash Report Blames Gunman

WASHINGTON —  The National Transportation Safety Board ruled in its final official report today that the 1987 crash of a Pacific Southwest Airlines jet was caused by a gunman seeking revenge on a former supervisor.

PSA Flight 1771 crashed Dec. 7, 1987, about 175 miles northwest of Los Angeles, killing all 43 people aboard including a former USAir employee who apparently had opened fire with a revolver during the flight after threatening his former supervisor, who was also aboard. The crash of the San Francisco-bound plane prompted the government to order tighter security measures at passenger checkpoints, especially in regard to airline and airport employees.
