Local News in Brief : UCLA 8th in Industry Research Funding

UCLA ranked eighth in the nation among universities receiving industry research and development funds in 1987, the National Science Foundation said.
The Westwood school, which received $14.4 million in the 12-month period, was the only California institution in the top 10 in the category of research funded by industry.
Leading the list was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with $35 million in industry-sponsored research. Georgia Institute of Technology was second with $23.6 million, and Penn State ranked third with $20.1 million.
The University of Washington--the only other West Coast school in the top 10--ranked fourth in industry research with $18.6 million.
