CBS Pulls the Plug on ‘Coming of Age’
“Coming of Age,” a comedy that made a brief appearance on the CBS schedule last season and then returned last month, has been pulled from the lineup again because of low ratings.
Replacing it at 8:30 p.m. Mondays, as of Dec. 12, will be “Kate & Allie,” the comedy with Jane Curtin and Susan Saint James that has been running for five seasons. (The time slot will be filled by Christmas specials the next two weeks.)
CBS, which is running third in the prime-time ratings this season, is having trouble with all its Monday-night shows, but “Coming of Age” was viewed as a particularly weak link. Last Monday, for example, “Newhart” got an 11.6 rating at 8 p.m., “Coming of Age” got a 9.6 at 8:30 and “Murphy Brown” got a 12 at 9 p.m. Each rating point represents 904,000 households.
