Job-Related Injuries Climb 5%

WASHINGTON — The rate of job-related injuries and illnesses in the United States increased by 5% last year, the first rise since 1984, the government reported today.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said there were 351,000 more injuries and 53,000 more illnesses reported last year than in 1985. About 190,000 workers suffered new illnesses for the first time, most of them involving noise-related hearing losses, skin diseases and repetitive motion ailments.
