Some of Hollywood’s more politically active scions are starting to mobilize for Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis. When Dukakis campaign officials wanted to turn a recent L.A. speech into an TV spot, producer-director-restaurateur Tony Bill (“My Bodyguard,” “Six Weeks”) volunteered to film it and brought along esteemed cinematographer John Bailey, according to Dukakis’ California press secretary, Dee Dee Meyers. Bill then contacted Bruce Hornsby, who donated the instrumental introduction of his song “Look Out Any Window” as a musical backdrop. (Since the original recording is owned by RCA Records, the version in the spot is an “electronic recreation,” Meyers said, though it’s virtually indistinguishable from the original.) The ad began airing Wednesday. On Monday, Sydney Pollack (“Tootsie,” “Out of Africa”) shot another speech at Cerritos College, which will be used for two new ads using the same music, the first of which could air as soon as today.
