Capt. Kenneth Bayless, an 18-year veteran of the Los Angeles Sherrif’s Department, has been named as the new head of the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station, officials announced this week.
Bayless, 42, replaces Capt. Elmer Omohundro, who has been transferred to the Western Court Services Bureau. Omohundro, who commanded the Lakewood station for 20 years, will now direct bailiffs, court process servers and other court personnel in West Los Angeles.
Bayless was captain of the Marina del Rey department for 19 months. He began his law enforcement career with the department as a deputy in the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station. He also has worked at the Firestone Station and the sheriff’s academy.
Under contract, the Lakewood station provides law enforcement protection to Lakewood, Artesia, Bellflower, Hawaiian Gardens, Cerritos and Paramount.
