STATWATCH : London Exhibits a Midas Touch

After scoring 115 points in posting a 4-4 record last season, Monroe has outscored opponents, 221-81, this season. The Vikings are 6-1, including a 5-0 record in Mid-Valley League play.

Terry London, a versatile 6-foot, 3-inch, 180-pound wide receiver, is a big reason for Monroe’s turnaround, having scored 11 touchdowns. London has 16 receptions--5 for touchdowns. Two of his 3 rushes have resulted in touchdowns, and he has returned 4 punts for scores, including touchdowns of 50 and 42 yards in a 56-0 rout of Birmingham last week.

Passing: Notre Dame quarterback Greg Andrachick, who assumed the starting quarterback role 3 weeks ago, has passed for 8 touchdowns. Andrachick, a junior, has completed 34 of 51 passes for 546 yards. He has thrown 2 interceptions.

Rushing: With 144 yards in Friday’s 19-9 loss to St. Francis, Alemany senior Tyler Robuck regained the rushing lead among Valley-area Southern Section teams. Robuck has 977 yards in 174 carries (a 5.6 average). . . . Of Calabasas’ 12 rushing touchdowns, Mike Webb has 11. Bob Rajewski has the other. . . . In Glendale’s first 3 games--all victories--Corey White rushed for 355 yards and 3 touchdowns in 46 carries, a 7.7-yard average. White has only 166 yards and 1 score in 49 carries during Dynamiters’ past 4 games--all losses.

Receiving: Sharif Fahim of Birmingham has moved to the top of the Valley’s City Section list with 16 catches for 140 yards in the past 2 games. Fahim had 9 catches for 74 yards against Monroe last week and has 35 catches for 418 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Scoring: Reseda tailback William Gaines has scored at least 1 touchdown in each of the Regents’ 7 games and has 15 on the season. Gaines has 12 touchdowns rushing and 3 receiving. He has scored 2 or more touchdowns in 5 games. . . . Van Nuys (2-5) has lost 3 consecutive games, scoring 5 points and rushing for 102 yards.

Defense: Reseda has outscored opponents, 217-39, for an average margin of 31-6. The Regents have 3 shutouts and only North Hollywood (14) and Sylmar (13) have scored more than 10 points against them.

Western Christian snapped Village Christian’s 7-game winning streak and also ended 2 other Crusader streaks. Western Christian is the first team this season to score against Village Christian in either the first or third quarters. The Crusaders had outscored opponents, 60-0, in the first quarter and, 67-0, in the third.
