THE PREPS : Roundup : Anderson Paces Esperanza to 11th Consecutive League Volleyball Title

Esperanza High School’s girls’ volleyball team won its 11th consecutive Empire League championship Tuesday by defeating Los Alamitos, 15-0, 15-7, 15-5, at Los Alamitos.
Heidi Anderson had 18 assists to lead the Aztecs (12-1, 9-0), who are ranked eighth in the Southern Section 4-A Division.
In the Century League:
Villa Park 3, Santa Ana 1--Dana Armstrong had 42 assists to lead Villa Park (15-4, 7-2) to a 15-0, 13-15, 15-5, 15-3 victory at Santa Ana.
In the Orange League:
Magnolia 3, Valencia 0--Juniors Jill Schneidner (21 kills) and Dawn Adelmund (5 aces) led Magnolia (5-8, 4-5) to a 15-12, 15-10, 15-9 victory at home.
Brea-Olinda 3, Savanna 0--Nancy Chabot had 28 service points--including 12 in a row in the second game--to lead Brea-Olinda (11-5, 5-4) to a 15-10, 15-6, 15-11 victory.
In the Sea View League:
Corona del Mar 3, Estancia 0--Cristen Walley (11 kills, 5 solo blocks) and Marni Jo Price (12 service points) led the Sea Kings (11-2, 9-0) at Estancia, 15-1, 15-7, 15-3. Estancia is 5-8 and 3-6.
In the South Coast League:
Irvine 3, Capistrano Valley 0--Bev Oden had 17 kills and Stephanie Chiang had 12 digs to lead Irvine (13-0, 9-0) at home, 15-7, 15-0, 15-9. Capistrano Valley is 5-4 in league.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 3, Ocean View 0--Kim Jones had 23 assists and Leslee Briggs had 11 kills to lead Edison (12-3, 9-0) at home, 15-5, 15-1, 15-4. Ocean View is 6-9 overall, 3-6 in league.
In Freeway League girls’ tennis:
Fullerton 15, La Habra 3--Loraine Lau swept her sets at 6-0 to improve her league record to 27-0 at Fullerton. No. 1 doubles team Bonnie Massey and Danielle Leon (27-0) swept their sets, 6-1, 6-0, 7-5, to help Fullerton (9-0).
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 14, University 4--Hilleri Burnell and Hillary Benedict swept their doubles sets to lead the Sailors (5-4). Jeannette Fylpaa (51-3) swept her sets to lead University (3-6).
Corona del Mar 9, Estancia 9 (Corona del Mar wins on games, 84-78)--Corona del Mar (18-1, 9-0), playing without singles players Keri Phebus and Courtney Strauss, who were ill, and Iliama Adame, who was injured, won the league title with the narrow victory. Estancia (14-4) was led by Dina Birch, who swept her sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, and doubles team Kari Deutsch and Shanon Suzuki, who swept, 6-2, 7-6, 6-0.
In the South Coast league:
Capistrano Valley 11, Dana Hills 6--Page Bartelt led the Cougars (16-1, 10-0) to their second consecutive league title at Capistrano Valley. Dana Hills is 8-2.
In the Sunset League:
Huntington Beach 18, Westminster 0--Courtney Woods, at No. 3 singles, won her sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead the Oilers (9-7, 4-6) at home.
Fountain Valley 12, Marina 6--Sara Marini and Tracy Foster swept their doubles sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 to lead Fountain Valley (9-1) at Marina. Junior Tracy Crisell (49-5) swept her sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, to lead Marina (6-4).
Edison 18, Ocean View 0--Katie Beard swept her sets 6-1, 7-6, 6-0 to lead Edison (9-1) at home. Edison and Fountain Valley clinch the league’s co-championship.
