Gas Line Break Causes Fire

An explosion at a Southern California Gas Co. plant in Valencia caused a natural-gas line to rupture and triggered a brush fire today, but there were no reports of injury, firefighters said.
“It’s a ground line. We have no idea what size,” said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Chuck Gutierrez. The explosion was reported at 11:56 a.m. and 55 firefighters were dispatched to the gas company’s plant on Brady Parkway at Rye Canyon Road in Bouquet Canyon, Gutierrez said. Arriving firefighters called a second alarm, presumably because of the brush fire.
