Local News in Brief : Deputy Kills Suspect Brandishing Knife

A 48-year-old Los Angeles man who confronted a sheriff’s deputy with a knife that may have been used in an earlier stabbing was fatally shot by the deputy when he refused to drop it, authorities said.
L. C. Pete died Monday evening, 16 hours after the shooting, in Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center. Deputy Hal Grant said Pete was being sought for the stabbing of an unidentified victim when the deputy encountered him at Baring Cross street and Century Boulevard in Los Angeles.
The victim of the stabbing, which occurred about two blocks away in an unincorporated area, was in stable condition at the same hospital.
