Hans-Jorg Hungerland, currently export sales manager for Volkswagen AG in West Germany, will become president and chief executive of Volkswagen of America effective March 1, 1989. Hungerland, 47, will replace Noel Phillips, who has been appointed president and chief executive of Autolatina, formed in 1987 when Volkswagen and Ford Motor Co. merged operations in Argentina and Brazil. Phillips, 54, will become head of Autolatina effective July 1, 1989, and be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Hungerland was general service manager at Volkswagen of America from 1980 to 1983.
