SAN DIEGO ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS

Neale Perl has been appointed executive director of the La Jolla Chamber Music Society. His appointment fills the vacancy created when Geoffrey Brooks resigned last summer. The 32-year-old Perl is assistant director of the Maryland Summer Institute for the Creative and Performing Arts. He is also the director and a performing member of the Washington Chamber Ensemble, a group he founded seven years ago in Washington. Perl, a cellist, graduated from Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory of Music. According to the society’s publicist, Sue Dramm, Perl will assume his duties here no later than Dec. 1. Sources indicated that a previous candidate was ready to be announced earlier in the society’s season, which began Sept. 27 but that those negotiations collapsed unexpectedly at the last moment.
