College Roundup : Stanford Beats Irvine to Capture Water Polo Title

Erik Blum scored three goals to lead Stanford to a 16-8 victory over UC Irvine Sunday in the championship game of the U.S. Air Force water polo tournament at Colorado Springs, Colo.
Stanford (10-3), the fourth-ranked team in the nation, led, 4-1, at the end of the first quarter and 7-3 at the half. Tom Warde, Tony Bell and Kevin Wood scored two goals each for Irvine (7-4), the sixth-ranked team in the nation.
Irvine defeated UC San Diego, 7-6, earlier Sunday to advance to the championship match of the eight-team event.
In men’s nonconference soccer:
Chapman 2, Sacramento State 0--Senior Kevin Olsen and freshman Scott Montroy scored second-half goals to lead host Chapman (5-3).
In women’s nonconference soccer:
University of Denver 3, Chapman 0--Bente Loe, Karin Carswell and Kelly Doyle scored first-half goals for Denver at Chapman.
In Big West women’s volleyball:
Hawaii 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Despite Tammy Miller’s 8 kills, Hawaii won at home, 15-0, 16-14, 15-3.
