Other Divers Were in a Very Difficult Position

The Mike Downey column condemning the sport of diving is uncalled for. These competitors were at the U.S. diving trials attempting to qualify for the Olympic Games. They all have dedicated many years of training to enable them to participate in the trials. They cannot, and should not, allow their quest to be marred by one individual.
None of us like the situation surrounding Bruce Kimball, and the terrible tragedy in Florida. But, it was Kimball who had the accident. It was not all the divers in the United States. The divers at the trials should not have to defend or condemn Bruce; others will do that.
Downey should not allow his feelings about one individual to reflect on all others in the sport.
