Seven cars of a 33-car Southern Pacific freight train derailed Friday in Palmdale, but no one was injured, railroad officials said.
The cause of the 10 a.m. derailment in the desert community about 60 miles north of downtown Los Angeles was not known, said a Southern Pacific Railroad dispatcher.
“The wheels are off the track, but the cars are upright and parallel to the track,” the dispatcher said.
Crews were expected to have the cars back on track by mid-afternoon and no trains had to be rerouted, the dispatcher said.
