Al Capital Scores Win at Del Mar

DEL MAR — Lightly regarded Al Capital led all the way and beat Ponderay by three lengths in the $33,000 turf feature for 3-year-old fillies at Del Mar Thursday.
Ridden by Russell Baze, Al Capital took command early in the 1 1/16-mile race, then drew away in the stretch to win handily in 1:42 2/5. Dot’s L’Natural was another 1 lengths back in third place.
Al Capital, sent off at 13-1 by the crowd of 12,601, paid $28.40, $11.80 and $7.80. The victory was worth $18,150 to owner George Layman.
Ponderay, with Gary Stevens up, paid $5.40 and $4. Dot’s L’Natural, under Chris McCarron, paid $3.80.
