Haag, Parsons Advance to Final

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Danville stockbroker Randy Haag and UC Santa Barbara senior Don Parsons will meet today in the 36-hole final for the 77th California Amateur Golf Championship.
During Friday’s double round, Haag, 29, defeated Jack Spradlin Jr. of San Diego, 2 and 1, in the quarterfinals, and came back in the semifinals to beat former UCLA player Bob Marten, 31, of Alamo, 4 and 3.
Parsons, 22, from Goleta, defeated Southern California Amateur champion Greg Starkman of Beverly Hills, 2 and 1, in the quarterfinals and held off Steve McMichael, a University of California senior, 1-up, in the semifinals.
In other quarterfinal matches, McMichael elimiated Randy Bridge, 20, of Hollister, a junior from Fresno State, 6 and 5, and Marten beat Craig Steinberg of Van Nuys, 3 and 1.
