A mother was booked on suspicion of manslaughter Wednesday after her pickup truck overturned in Azusa and killed her 4-year-old daughter, who was riding alone in the vehicle’s open bed.
Rhonda Welsh, 32, of Azusa, also was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after she failed to negotiate a turn in the Angeles National Forest about 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, California Highway Patrol Officer Monty Keifer said.
The pickup overturned, ejecting Welsh’s daughter, Tawney, who was crushed under the truck, Keifer said.
Welsh and her roommate, Betty South, 29, who was riding in the passenger seat, suffered minor injuries and were treated at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital, he said.
