Local News in Brief : Transient Struck by Train
- Share via
Police said a transient suffered severe foot injuries Monday when he was struck by a Southern Pacific freight train near the spot in Van Nuys where another man was recently hit in a similar accident.
The latest victim, Roberto Perez, 21, was taken to Holy Cross Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
The accident occurred at Woodman Avenue and Saticoy Street, an area frequented by transients who sometimes sit on the tracks. Sgt. John Rygh of the Van Nuys Division of the Los Angeles Police Department said Perez was found sitting on the tracks, and police are trying to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol.
Two days earlier, another man suffered lacerations to his back when he was struck by a train about a block from the place where Perez was hit, police said.
