Two British citizens wanted in the United States on charges of illegally exporting military-oriented, high-technology materials to the Soviet Bloc have been arrested in Rome. The two, identified as Brian Butcher, 55, of Southampton, and Clifford Chadwick, 52, of Rochdale, were taken into custody on international warrants issued by the U.S. Customs Service. A U.S. extradition request is expected shortly. Officials would not divulge the exact type of material involved, but the Italian news agency ANSA described it as photocopies of electronic equipment for submarines, planes and missiles. Chadwick is also under investigation for possible links with Libya, according to Italy’s anti-terrorist police.
