Gov. George Deukmejian elevated a former Long Beach law partner, Associate Justice Campbell Lucas, to presiding justice for the state 2nd District Court of Appeal, Division 5. Lucas, 63, came to the court’s Division 1 bench from Los Angeles County Superior Court in 1984. He replaces Presiding Justice Robert Feinerman, who retired. Lucas is the older brother of California Supreme Court Justice Malcolm Lucas, also a Deukmejian appointee. The three worked together in a general practice law firm in which Campbell Lucas was a partner from 1954-70. He specialized in business and corporate law. The appointment to the $97,003-a-year post of presiding justice requires confirmation by the Commission on Judicial Appointments.
