Quakes Jolt Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA — Coastal residents were jolted awake by a moderate earthquake and aftershock today, prompting worried calls to police. There were no reports of injury or damage.
The first shock, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, hit at 12:42 a.m. and was centered 11 miles southeast of downtown, said a spokesman for the seismology lab at Caltech in Pasadena. Fifteen minutes later, an aftershock measured 2.7 on the Richter scale.
