The developer of AARON, the first computer program capable of autonomously generating “freehand drawings,” will lead the Mesa College Art Assn.’s next Art Forum in a discussion of the latest techniques in computer-generated art. AARON’s creator, Harold Cohen, is a professor of visual arts at UC San Diego and has worked on the merging of art and artificial intelligence since the early 1970s, following a career as a painter.
Cohen has exhibited works produced by the AARON system internationally at such institutions as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Tate Gallery in London. He recently co-authored “The First Artificial Intelligence Coloring Book.” On Thursday at 7 p.m., he will show and discuss his work in room H117-118 at Mesa College. Admission for members of the Mesa College Art Assn. is free; cost for other is $3.
