Homicide detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the Sunday night slaying of an Encinitas man who was shot in the back after an argument.
The victim, Oscar Arguello of Gardena Road, was declared dead at Scripps Memorial Hospital-Encinitas at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, less than an hour after he was shot by an unknown assailant with a shotgun, said Lt. Bill Baxter of the sheriff’s homicide division.
The suspect, described as a Latino man aged 25 to 30, fled in a pickup truck. No weapon has been recovered.
Arguello, 26, and the man had been arguing in front of the apartment building where Arguello lived. Police, responding to neighbors’ calls that a man had been shot, found Arguello lying beside a house.
