PUEBLA, Mexico — Hundreds of demonstrators shouting “Catholic Mexico, Catholic Mexico!” protested an art exhibit with paintings depicting a nude Virgin Mary and disrupted a speech by the mayor, a news report said Monday.
An article in Uno Mas Uno, a Mexico City daily, said demonstrators gathered Sunday outside the Teatro Principal in Puebla, 60 miles east of the capital, where Mayor Guillermo Pacheco Pulido was speaking. Roman Catholic groups have protested several recent art exhibits, which they say are anti-religious and offensive.
