A bystander who was wounded in the foot during a shoot-out between rival gangs at the Vietnamese community’s fourth annual Tet festival has been identified by police as a 35-year-old Christian evangelist from Canoga Park.
Lt. David Salazar said Huy Xuan Nguyen was listed in good condition Monday at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center.
Nguyen was standing with several hundred other people in an open-air bingo parlor near the front entrance of the festival at Centennial Regional Park about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when an argument erupted between the rival gangs.
One of the youths produced a small-caliber handgun and fired a shot at another youth, but missed and hit Nguyen instead, prompting police to close down the two-day festival an hour early.
Salazar said investigators have not arrested any suspects and an investigation is continuing.
