Leslie Ellis had 53 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the Santana High School girls’ basketball team, the county’s second-ranked squad, to victories over Helix and El Cajon Valley.
Ellis, a 6-foot senior, is second in the Grossmont League with a 20.5 scoring average and has been in double figures in each of Santana’s 18 games. She also leads the league in free-throw shooting at 80%.
“I think she’s the finest all-around offensive player in the county,” Coach Wade Vickery said. “She handles the ball extremely well for a big kid. She leads the team in assists, she’s our best outside shooter and she posts up well. She does everything on offense.”
Ellis has been a four-year starter for Santana, which currently leads the Grossmont League with a 12-0 record and is 18-1 overall.
SOCCER
The Grossmont High girls’ soccer team went into its two matches last week with a one-game lead in the Grossmont League standings.
Andrea Radmilovich scored the winning goals in both matches as Grossmont increased its league lead to 2 1/2 games.
Against Santana Wednesday, Radmilovich scored on a penalty kick for the 1-0 victory. Friday, against second-place Valhalla, she scored the game’s only goal with less than four minutes to play.
In Grossmont’s last five matches, Radmilovich has scored four game-winning goals.
