Southwest Airlines’ net income for the year was $20.2 million, down from $50 million in 1986. The reduction in net income in 1987 is primarily attributable to losses incurred by its TranStar unit and a decrease in operating revenue per available seat mile in 1987 compared to 1986, the Dallas-based firm said.
