MBABANE, Swaziland — The number of refugees fleeing from conflicts in South Africa and Mozambique into Swaziland has doubled to 25,000 in the past year, a Swazi official said Friday.
Government public relations officer Abner Tembe told the Times of Swaziland newspaper that most of the refugees were Mozambican children and women fleeing fighting between government forces and rebels.
An average of 2OO Mozambicans are crossing into Swaziland every month and are housed in two camps in the east of the country, he said.
