Toler Scores 31 as 49er Women Win

Junior guard Penny Toler, returning to the lineup after a two-week absence, scored 31 points to lead the Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team to a 100-74 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over Nevada Las Vegas Saturday night at Las Vegas.
Toler, who injured her left knee Jan. 2, made 11 of 15 field-goal attempts and 8 of 8 free throws. Junior forward Cheryl Dowell contributed 15 points and had 13 rebounds as the 12th-ranked 49ers improved to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in PCAA play.
Long Beach, which led, 49-35, at halftime, outscored the Rebels, 14-4, during the first four minutes of the second half. The 49ers increased their lead to 76-45 on a layup by Toler with 10:54 left.
Las Vegas, ranked 17th, was led by Pauline Jordan, who scored 26 points. The Rebels are 11-3 and 5-2.
