Never Smoked Pot, FBI Director Says; Calls Question Apt for Office Seekers

WACO, Tex. — FBI Director William S. Sessions says he’s never smoked marijuana and thinks anyone seeking political office should be asked the same question.
“You know what the law requires,” Sessions said. “We choose to govern ourselves by law and it’s important we follow the laws and enforce the laws.”
The former federal jurist from San Antonio was here last week to address the annual banquet of the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.
When asked at a news conference if he ever smoked marijuana, Sessions, who took the FBI job in 1987, said he never had.
But he said the question was valid.
“All of us have violated the law at one time or another in one or more ways--you and I--and we all know we’ve done it,” he said.
