Widening of Canyon Road
In reply to David M. Scott’s letter (Dec. 20): How can the city of Laguna Beach purchase open space and deny Caltrans (its plan for) widening Laguna Canyon Road, where numerous fatalities have occurred?
The answer: We are not flatland Huntington Beach; we preserve and cherish our village atmosphere. We cannot and will not pave over our town for parking lots.
The accidents are not because of a two-lane road through a scenic canyon, but from drivers driving “under the influence.” Not to mention the fact that the greater portion of the accidents occurred in Irvine territory, not Laguna Beach!
