AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Heard the rumors about CBS’ late-night rock show, “Top of the Pops,” being put out to pasture in the wake of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy declaration by “Pops’ ” production company, the Entertainment Network? Well, forget ‘em. The BBC’s L.A.-based subsidiary, Lionheart Television, has stepped in to save the show, with a full commitment to complete the remainder of “Pops’s” 26-week run on CBS. . . . Top-flight indy label Enigma Records (which just bought Jem Records) has signed Devo, who are finishing up a new album, due out as early as May 1. . . . With “The Princess Bride” sound track and the latest Willie DeVille album under his production belt, Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler has now gone to work with Joan Armatrading. . . . George Clinton’s seminal soul ensemble, Funkadelic, has signed with MCA Records (though George has a solo deal elsewhere).
