Bonn Lawmaker Seeks Financial Break for GIs

BONN — A member of Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s Christian Democratic Union proposed Tuesday that U.S. soldiers posted in West Germany, hard hit by the fall of the dollar, should have free admission to many recreational facilities.
Hans-Gert Poettering, a Christian Democratic member of the European Parliament, also advocates giving U.S. servicemen and women stationed in Europe some form of financial compensation to make up for the 50% drop in the value of the dollar.
