California Institute of the Arts has received a donation from a Los Angeles philanthropic organization that makes it possible for the Valencia college to accept additional money from the National Endowment for the Arts, officials announced Tuesday.
The $103,000 donation from the Fletcher Jones Foundation of Los Angeles will become part of a $2.6-million CalArts fund for the purchase of computers and digital-recording equipment.
The donation cleared the way for an $825,000 offering for the same purpose from the NEA, which had set a deadline under which the funds could be given. To receive the money, CalArts had to raise the $2.6 million between October, 1984, and next July. CalArts reached that goal when it received the Jones Foundation contribution.
