Even the Statistics Seem to Be Juiced Up

Perhaps Ross Newhan has a better head for sports than for logic (or math), but the major league baseball season has 2,106 scheduled games (972 in the National League, 1,134 in the American).
The best I can figure is that Mr. Newhan got his number (4,232) in the Aug. 5 Times by multiplying 26 teams by 162 games--that’s twice the correct number--and then adding a magical 20.
With this propensity to more than double things, Newhan could be hired by the Dodgers this year to calculate batting averages.
